Just Smashing!

I love when weekly challenges fit into my crafting plans.  This week's Heart 2 Heart Challenge did just that.  I was snooping on Amy Moore's blog (even though I don't know Amy, I feel kindred to her as she has my maiden name and loves CTMH too) last weekend and found this cute post and idea about a smash book.  Unfortunately I did not purchase CTMH journals before they were discontinued so went in search of a "smash book/journal" I could use to captured fun momentos, ideas and use for journaling.  I did find a cute kraft looking journal with black binding and a black band.

When I saw the Heart 2 Heart inspiration photo below, I knew exactly what I was going to do with my "smash book."
I loved the crisp color combination of brown, white, teal and black and was drawn to the pretty floral accent in the room.  The journal turned out pretty clean and simple.  I am loving the pop of teal.
Using CTMH's Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge I cut 4 different sized flowers and layered them with foam tape.  The black button in the center finishes off the flower pefectly and ties in all the black on the journal.
I have already started "smashing" a few memories from January and February.  I'll try to share a few pages now and then to give you an idea of what my smash book is about.  Thanks again to Amy Moore for the fun inspiration.  I can't wait to see what becomes of this cute little journal.

Put A Bird On It

Oh yes I did!  I put a bird on the Mojo Monday card and it looks so cute!

I just love Close to My Heart's Stella Paper Pack and how nice all the bright blues, reds, pinks, oranges and greens go together.  It looks so earthy and nice, and perfect for a bird :o).   I also used CTMH's Chocolate Striped Grosgain Ribbon for the pretty tie embellishment.

What do you like to put birds on?

A Pretty Meal

Today I created a fun freezer meal of Chicken Taco Soup to give to a family at my daughter's preschool whose mother fell and broke her leg.  Freezer meals are perfect to bring to a family in need.  They are easy to prepare and are stored in Ziploc bags, so are disposable.
To dress up the dull Ziploc bag and make the meal a little more special, I took inspiration from this weeks Heart 2 Heart Challenge Sketch.
Since the bag topper was rectangle, I had to make a few adjustments.  Can you see the inspiration?
I even added a smaller topper for the chocolate chip cookies too.  I love how pretty the Stella Compliment Canvas shapes are.  They add such a special touch to these simple projects.
I put the entire meal in a cheap Albertson's reusable bag to contain the meal in a nice compact package to deliver.

Super Heros Everywhere!

This past weekend we celebrated my son's birthday with a superhero party.  It was a great time with lots of superheros everywhere.  See the invitation for the party here

Each of the children were asked to dress as their favorite superhero.  It was fun to have everyone in their costumes.
While the children arrived, there were paper airplanes to decorate and fly.  Once everyone arrived we played several superhero games, like "pass the kryptonite."
We made spider webs like Spiderman by rolling a ball of yarn around a circle.
Using our parachute, we played "cape games."  I talked about how a cape looked and how it moved.
We also played a Villain bean bag game to try to flip the "bad guys."  And lastly while I got lunch ready, the kids played a Mr. Freeze Dance Game.
After the games we had lunch.  We ate Super Hero Subs, "Crunch" potato chips, rocket ship fruit kabobs, veggies and dip, and green "kryptonite" jello parfait ( lime jello, pineapple, and cool whip).
It was great party.

Made with Heart

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and we have been busy making cards for our family and teachers.   This weeks challenge at Heart 2 Heart was to make something for someone you love.  Eventhough it is a day for sweethearts, we also like to send cards to our family to let them know how much we love them.

If you follow my blog, you know that I like to use my children's art to create things.  These kid crafted cards are by no means meant to be pristine and gorgeous, but they are beautiful because they were made with little hands that were fully committed to the fun of creating.  I think they will be loved by the Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who will receive these little gems.

Using CTMH white card stock, the kids stamped hearts onto the cards using cut up toliet paper rolls in pink and red.

I stamped the simple phrase of "Be Mine" using CTMH Typeset Letters and mounted them on holiday red cardstock.  My daughter assembled and glued them on the cards.

Some of the cards were very uniform.
 Some were a little random.
A some were down right crazy!
None the less they were made with love and turned out looking pretty festive.

Make sure to check out some more artwork "For the One/s You Love" at Heart 2 Heart.

POW!

Capes, Masks, Super Powers, Bad Guys Flee
Can it be?
Our little SUPERHERO is three!
I have only had my blog for about a year now, but my most popular posts have always been those regarding my children's birthday parties.  So, I thought I would post just a quick sneak peak at the invitation for my son's upcoming Superhero birthday party.  Stay tuned for more details from his big day.  Trust me, there will be villians, kryptonite, spiderwebs and lots of heros to the rescue.  Think it is going to be a great day!

Stella Layouts are Stellar!

I just love the new paper packs from the new Close to My Heart's Spring and Summer Idea Book and am really looking forward to some of the projects I have planned for the next couple of months.  It is always fun to use new product, especially when it is so pretty.

Here are the two layouts we will be creating during the February 9th Scrappy Creations Class.
Layout 1:  Lifted directly out of the Idea Book (pg. 16 Imagine: Follow the Lead).  I didn't have enough pictures to add, so I added a few journaling squares to complete the look.)
Layout 2:  Adapted from a sketch in the February, 2012 edition of Scrapbooks Ect.  Although these papers were designed for spring and summer, I think these fall cookout pictures look nice too.
Didn't sign up to participate in my class, or don't live nearby?  No worries, order one or more of the follow supplies from my website and I will send you complete directions on how to complete these layouts.
Stella Paper Pack $9.95
Stella Complements Canvas Shapes $5.95
Bohemian Assortment $4.95
You may also wish to purchase the following to complete the look:
Cocoa Ink Pad $5.25
Round Sponge $1.25

Stay tuned for March's Scrappy Creation Class projects.  I will be posting the finished projects later on this week or next.
